A memorable fishing destination combines good water, accessible fishing areas, suitable facilities, safety, cleanliness, hospitality, value for money and an environment where anglers and their families can relax and enjoy the outdoors.
Through these Fishing Venue Reports & Recommendations, I will share my personal experiences of fishing venues that I visit, providing practical information that may help fellow anglers, campers and families decide where they would like to spend their next fishing trip.
These reports are based, wherever possible, on first-hand experience rather than simply advertising information supplied by the venue.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THE VENUE REPORTS

Each venue will be considered from the perspective of an angler as well as someone spending time camping or relaxing at the destination.

Fishing Opportunities

The type of fishing available, accessibility to the water, fishing stands or swims, species commonly caught, general fishing conditions and any particular opportunities offered by the venue will be considered. Where appropriate, I may also share observations regarding fishing methods, distances, baits or approaches that proved useful during my visit.

Camping and Accommodation

Where camping or accommodation is available, I will consider aspects such as:
• Size and condition of stands
• Waterfront access
• Shade
• Electricity and water availability
• Caravan accessibility
• Chalets or other accommodation
• General comfort and atmosphere

Ablution and Other Facilities

Clean and practical facilities are an important part of any extended fishing or camping trip. Reports may therefore include observations about ablution facilities, washing areas, shops, restaurants, swimming areas and other amenities available at the venue.

Accessibility

Particular attention will be given to how easily the venue can be reached and used. This may include:
• Road conditions
• Access for ordinary passenger vehicles
• Caravan and trailer access
• Distance to fishing areas
• General mobility around the venue
• Accessibility of facilities where applicable

Family-Friendliness

Fishing is often more enjoyable when it becomes something that can be shared with the whole family. I will therefore also consider whether a venue is suitable for spouses, children, grandchildren and those who may simply want to enjoy the outdoors without necessarily spending the entire day fishing.

Safety and Environment

The overall atmosphere of a venue matters. Where possible, I will comment on matters such as security, cleanliness, noise levels, natural surroundings and whether the venue provides an environment in which visitors can relax comfortably.

Management and Hospitality

Good management can transform an ordinary fishing venue into somewhere people want to visit repeatedly. Friendly communication, helpful staff, organised bookings and management that genuinely cares about its visitors will therefore form an important part of these reports.

Value for Money

Fishing trips can become expensive. I will consider the overall experience in relation to the cost, including camping or accommodation fees, fishing fees and any additional charges that anglers should know about. Where pensioner discounts, midweek specials or other benefits are available, these will also be highlighted whenever possible.

MY APPROACH TO VENUE REVIEWS

These reports are not intended to attack or unfairly criticise fishing venues. Neither are they intended to become advertisements disguised as reviews.
The objective is to provide a fair, practical and balanced account of my experience at the time of my visit.
Conditions, management, prices, roads, fishing and facilities can change over time. Readers should therefore always confirm current information directly with the venue before travelling.
A difficult fishing day does not necessarily make a poor venue, just as catching many fish does not automatically make a venue excellent. My recommendation will consider the complete experience.

THE FISHERMAN’S PERSPECTIVE

One of the purposes behind these reports is to answer the questions anglers often ask one another:
What is the place really like?
Can I get my caravan there?
Are the ablutions clean?
Can I fish comfortably from my stand?
Is it suitable for my family?
What species can I expect?
Is the venue well managed?
Is it worth the money?
Would I go back?
Where possible, that is the kind of practical information these reports will provide.

MORE THAN JUST FISHING

Fishing has always been about more than catching fish.
There is something about sitting beside the water that creates space to think, talk, rest and reconnect. It brings people together.
It creates memories between fathers and sons, husbands and wives, grandparents and grandchildren, friends and fellow anglers.
Sometimes the greatest catch of the weekend is not the fish that comes out of the water but the conversation, friendship, rest and fellowship that take place beside it.
That is part of what I hope to capture through these venue reports.
